The new service allows users to rediscover Italy’s cities and landscapes from an unusual point
of view, setting out on a virtual trek from the Alps to Sicily
Turin, 11 March 2010 – The beauty of Italy’s cities can now be admired in 3D from the comfort of your own home: SEAT PG has enhanced the experience of browsing the TuttoCittà.it® portal by giving users the chance to explore all of Italy in three dimensions.
Powered by 3D technology, TuttoCittà.it® lets users travel down roads, gaze upon landmarks, and immerge themselves in Italy’s landscapes from three different points of view. By selecting the “bird’s-eye” view, users can enjoy a privileged vantage point high in the sky where they can take in the panorama in a single glance before deciding to swoop down to wherever strikes their fancy. In addition, viewing height can be adjusted to plunge into storied lanes, discover buildings new and old, and go for a virtual stroll through Italy’s urban centers and mountain trails.
3D travel on TuttoCittà.it® takes place via streaming, permitting users to set off in discovery of Italy’s most evocative locales easily and immediately, at a mere click.
In addition, the major landmarks of Milan, Rome, Naples, Turin and Mantua have been reconstructed with even greater accuracy and detail, overlaying actual pictures of the facades on top of the 3D-reconstructions of the buildings in order to allow users a deeper appreciation of their historic and artistic value.
In pursuit of an even more compelling and immersive experience, the 3D technology employed by TuttoCittà.it® has an integrated weather function that provides direct access to information about the meteorological conditions in a given geographical area through a realistic depiction of atmospheric phenomena: on a fine, sunny day, the sky above a city will be a deep blue, while the grey, foggy atmosphere of gloomy autumn days will also be visible online.
TuttoCittà.it® also lets users create a 3D itinerary by choosing a point of departure and a destination: a red car will then drive down the streets, simulating the trip and indicating the route to take to arrive conveniently at the desired location.
In addition to the 3D viewing mode, users of TuttoCittà.it® can also travel Italy’s streets
online via:
• the “Eyes on the Road” mode, which allows users to take a virtual trip down the
streets of 240 places of interest to tourists throughout Italy, following a photographed route from
behind the lens, at street level;
• the aerial view, which lets users view and explore all of Italy using the aerial
photographs taken by e-Geos exclusively for SEAT Pagine Gialle. The aerial images, which have been
overlaid precisely on top of maps, provide a spectacular reconstruction of cities and landscapes.
Using an advanced representation system, visual research can even precisely identify every single
street number, whether these are plazas or landmark buildings, or shops and company offices.
