PagineGialle Mobile: New BlackBerry Application and Upgraded Version for the iPhone Now Available

2009-12-14  12.30

SEAT Pagine Gialle’s mobile services are even more widely accessible thanks to the RIM and Apple platforms

Turin, 14 December 2009 – SEAT Pagine Gialle has introduced its new PagineGialle Mobile application for the BlackBerry and an upgraded version (ver. 1.1) of PagineGialle Mobile for the iPhone, in addition to the application already available for the Vodafone 360, in order to give users new opportunities to access Pagine Gialle’s vast wealth of information and addresses from their mobile phones as well.

PagineGialle Mobile enables users to conduct mobile searches of over 3.8 million companies, stores and businesses by name, or even just a word or words that describe what they are looking for (category, type of goods, brand, and so forth). The application is noteworthy for the simplicity of its interface, which is customized to suit the smartphone format, and is especially intuitive and friendly to even less proficient users, but also for the speed and accuracy of its searches, which always generate timely, relevant and geo-referenced results.

“PagineGialle Mobile is the fastest and easiest way for customers to access the wealth of information in the SEAT Pagine Gialle database directly from their smartphones. We have developed versions of the application optimized for the iPhone and Blackberry that are a perfect fit for next-generation mobile technologies, such as touchscreen displays, GPS localisation and high-speed Internet connections,” explained Paolo Gonano, product marketing manager for SEAT Pagine Gialle. “Access to PagineGialle Mobile on multiple platforms represents an advantage for users, who can install an optimized version on their handsets, but also for our advertisers, who can achieve even more comprehensive coverage of current and potential customers.”

PagineGialle Mobile for the Blackberry

PagineGialle Mobile is now available to BlackBerry users free of charge from App World, the virtual store that provides software applications for the Canadian firm's smartphones. It enables direct access to ten general categories of Pagine Gialle specifically selected to fit the needs most commonly presented by mobile users, i.e. Food and Lodging, Travel and Transportation, Groceries, Home Products and Furnishings, Apparel and Shopping, Free Time, Services, Sport, Wellbeing and Beauty, Utilities and Emergencies. It also allows users free access to the Pagine Gialle database.

Each result is accompanied by a details page containing information such as an address, a telephone number that may be dialed directly, and an e-mail address or website that may be accessed using the Blackberry’s e-mail service or Internet browser. Users can also view their results on a static map or the BlackBerry’s dynamic maps.

PagineGialle Mobile 1.1 for the iPhone

After the success of the first version for the iPhone, which was downloaded from the App Store over 150.000 times in just a few months, the application has been fully revamped to add some new features and further improve the search engine. In addition to the new graphical interface, the 1.1 release uses the device's GPS system and TuttoCittà’s maps to build customised itineraries for vehicles or pedestrians.

The “Interactive Map/Itinerary” feature allows users to view a dynamic map showing the itinerary from the point of departure of the search (which may coincide with the user’s position) to the desired destination. Computation of the itinerary, which was not available in the previous version of PagineGialle Mobile for the iPhone, may be modified using the options “Faster”, “Shorter”, “On foot” and “No tolls,” with real-time updates of distance to destination and travel time. In addition, by activating the “Step by step” function, users can opt to view the various steps of the itinerary, along with details about each step, in sequence.

Another interesting new feature is integrated e-mail capacity: results of Pagine Gialle searches can be shared quickly and securely via e-mail simply by using the application’s pre-set model. The “Send to a friend” feature activates the e-mail account configured by the user on the iPhone and offers the advantage of staying in PagineGialle Mobile, without having to open and close the e-mail application.
