LOMBARDY
REGION AND BIT ON THE CUTTING EDGE OF TRAVEL 2.0
WITH THE VISUAL LOMBARDIA PLATFORM
DEVELOPED BY SEAT PAGINE GIALLE
Milan, 16 February 2009– More than
500 points of interest. More than
1,500 kilometres
of interactive maps of cities and tourist areas. 3D tours of the landmarks and key
sites in the Lombardy provinces.
These are just a few of the innovative characteristics of
Visual
Lombardia, the new satellite map
georeferencing and
3D visualisation system of places of tourist interest, designed especially for the
Region of Lombardy Authority. Visual Lombardia promotes the
regional territory and
tourist industry using high-tech technology, enhanced by a broad assortment of
content and features.
Lombardy is the
very first region to implement the
Visual Italy platform, the
Italian technology for comprehensive 360° mapping, resulting from the cooperation
between
Bit – International Tourism Exchange and
Seat Pagine Gialle, based on
PagineGialle Visual technology, with the aerial images of
Telespazio and the contribution of Telecom Design.
"To keep pace with the times, we also need to find effective new promotion techniques, using
the innovative instruments of Travel 2.0, the second-generation web applied to tourism. Visual
Italy meets the need to introduce our country to the web 2.0 audience, using cutting-edge
technological capability," stated
Corrado Peraboni, Managing Director of Fiera Milano Expocts, which organizes Bit.
"
Visual Italy provides unique and unprecedented techniques that allow the world to virtually
visit Italy and "preview" its points of interest in a virtual way.
This represents a great opportunity for the Italian regions. For years there has been talk of
integrating exhibitions with the Internet and this is one of the first tangible examples on an
international scale. With this operation, BIT delivers Italian tourist promotion services 365 days
a year and we are delighted that Councillor Prosperini quickly saw the unique opportunities of this
integration."
"The cooperation between Seat and Bit has resulted in a cutting-edge tool to take full
advantage of the territory, its artistic heritage and its tourist services and structures via the
web," remarked
Massimo Castelli, Italy General Manager, Seat Pagine Gialle.
"It is yet another demonstration of the innovative capacity of Seat, which is a pacesetter on
the Internet in Italy and beyond.”
The 29
th edition of Bit — the International Tourism Exchange — is being held at fieramilano in
Rho from Thursday 19 February to Sunday 22 February 2009.
