Introducing “VISUAL SIRACUSA” the Portal that utilises the innovative “PagineGialle Visual” Platform dedicated to Tourism, the Environment and Culture

Siracusa 11 July 2008 - Roberto Visentin, Mayor of Siracusa, Nicola Bono, President of the Province, Giambattista Bufardeci, Vice President and Chief of Tourism of the Region of Sicily, Fabio Granata, of the Chamber of Deputies Cultural Affairs Committee, Mariella Muti, superintendent of Cultural and Environmental Patrimony, Corrado Zaccaria, Chief of the Citizens' "Sportello Unico" (One-Stop) services office, and Giulia Randazzo, Manager of the Press and Communications Office, together with Antonello Angeleri, SEAT PG Institutional Relations Manager, and Alfredo Spalletta, Director of the Rome Internet Division of SEAT PG, the European leader in the sector of multimedia telephone directories and hi-tech Internet services, presented the new "Visual Siracusa" portal this morning.

The portal was created by integrating the databases of the Municipality of Siracusa and SEAT Pagine Gialle.
Visual Siracusa provides a complete and geo-referenced overview of tourist, environmental and cultural information, using the maps, high-definition orthophotos (aerial photography) and satellite images of the innovative technological platform of "PagineGialle Visual"
(www.visual.paginegialle.it).
Thanks to the simple and user-friendly interface, on "Visual Siracusa" users can find every category of tourist interest and more:
"Visual Siracusa" can leverage the significant traffic results of PagineGialle Visual — which has reached as many as 1.5 million unique users per month — and the other online directories of SEAT Pagine Gialle which have already exceeded 340 million hits this year.
“Thanks to the optimal collaboration between public and private entities – stated Mayor Roberto Visentin — our town council is able to offer a series of services to both its citizens and those who wish to get acquainted with Syracuse. In the age of the Internet and high-speed information, we must be able to fully exploit the technological highways and quickly provide people the answers they need. This is yet another way for us to systematically gain visibility, and establish beneficial relationships with entities in far away places and industry leaders in sectors not typically associated with a local entity. “Sicily is home to unique treasures that attract millions of visitors each year, yet it is also a land that suffers from the lack of tangible and intangible infrastructures,” stated Vice President and Chief of Tourism of the Region, Giambattista Bufardeci . “We must reach out into the world, and the Internet is a formidable tool we can exploit to the fullest to overcome distances. With this Portal the County of Syracuse will become a virtual role model, an example I hope all local communities will follow. My hometown, asset to Humanity, shows it can adapt its role to be dynamic, and contemporary”.
“Today is an important day in our history of protecting, safeguarding, and promoting our territory,” stated Fabio Granata, member of the Culture Committee of the Chamber of Deputies . “Contemporary history mandates we welcome this choice and the incredible value-adding opportunity it represents for our city. When we acknowledge the fact that 60% of the international market makes travel plans over the internet, we can better understand the importance of this innovative tool. I still maintain that there is a vast difference between a traveller and a tourist, and I hope Syracuse will increasingly become a destination sought after by travellers who appreciate the richness of our heritage.”

stroll through the centre of Siracusa, which is a World Heritage City.
