The state-of-the-art satellite navigation system for the Italian market, which includes the databases of the PagineBianche and PagineGialle directories, takes you to 20 million people and over 3 million businesses.
Seat Pagine Gialle, one of the world's main operators in the field of multimedia telephony and Internet services, in conjunction with gate5 (Europe's third-largest supplier of PND OEM software, recently acquired by Nokia), presents PagineGialle NAV: the satellite navigation system which includes the full databases of PagineGialle and PagineBianche. PagineGialle NAV is also the first PND in the world to offer this kind of database, all on board the device.
Users can access the full database of Seat Pagine Gialle - which includes over 23 million contacts - in order to find their destination: users can search by type of service, product or brand, or by entering the name of a business or individual, either in the areas one wants to reach, or around the current location of the user. However, more traditional users can still enter the address they want to reach. The clear voice directions on the simple, user-friendly interface will then lead users around each bend in the road, until they reach their destination.
During the guided tour, users can again access the research menu to update or change their destination, while the integrated TMC receiver supplies the software with up to the minute traffic information, to suggest alternative routes in case of traffic jams, accidents, or other information.
When not being used for navigation, PagineGialle NAV can also be used to listen to music, watch videos or look at photos on the convenient 4" wide-view screen, thanks to the standard applications included, which can handle the most common file formats (MJpeg, MP3, MP4, WMV, jpeg, etc.).
Thanks to an agreement with Navteq, the world leader in the development, updating and distribution of digital maps, PagineGialle NAV's geographical coverage not only includes maps of the whole of Italy, but also complete, detailed mapping of an area up to 200 km beyond its borders. This means it includes fully detailed maps of Switzerland, Austria and parts of Germany and France, Slovenia and Croatia, as well as the main roads of Europe to allow easy access to the continent's main towns and cities. The maps provided for all non-Italian areas will come complete with a database of local points of interest, organised in 50 categories.
The free weekly and monthly database updates for PagineBianche and PagineGialle can be downloaded onto the navigation system either via a mobile phone Bluetooth connection or by using your PC's Internet link and a special program available at www.visual.paginegialle.it as of 15 November.
Thanks to a distribution agreement with ICAL, PagineGialle NAV will be available at retail outlets, the main chain stores specialising in electronic consumer goods and many independent stores from mid-November, at a recommended retail price of Euro 379 including VAT.
"With the launch of the navigation system PagineGialle NAV, Seat has once again confirmed its capacity for innovation. After the colour version of PagineBianche, the new editions of PagineGialle, the 12.40 number and the Visual version of paginegialle.it, to name just a few of the new products launched over the past year, the PagineGialle branded navigation system is designed to create a new tool to benefit our users and advertisers. We want it to become a new landmark for the industry: people using the navigation system no longer have to search for a road or location, but they can find a person or company and be taken straight to their doors. We're offering businesses the chance to advertise and make their locations known thanks to this system, the only one of its kind on the market in terms of technology and functions", stated Luca Majocchi, Chief Executive Officer of Seat Pagine Gialle.
"We are particularly enthusiastic about today's first-ever presentation of PagineGialle NAV, thanks to the support from our partners: gate5, Navteq and ICAL," declared Paolo Cellini, Head of Seat PG's Internet Division. "This is an absolute first for Seat Pagine Gialle and represents our entry into the huge market of electronic consumer goods. We are convinced that users will appreciate the accuracy of the information, and the wealth of content our product has to offer. It is clearly different from the other systems currently available on the market."
"The project has state-of-the-art features. 20 million contacts will be directly available for Italy, taken from the Pagine Bianche directory, as well as over 3 million from the PagineGialle directory. By producing this unique, cutting edge product, gate5 and SEAT Pagine Gialle are revolutionising the mobile navigation industry. We are certain that our product will be incredibly successful, as it will provide an innovative, comprehensive answer to the market's demands", commented Maximillian von Schierstädt, gate 5's Director Content Products.
"We are pleased to offer our contribution to this new navigation product," stated Serge Bussat - Consumer Marketing Director Europe NAVTEQ. "SEAT already uses our data for its main Internet applications, so we are proud to be able to consolidate our working relationship and offer our full, detailed map of Italy for this device. It was one of our main European objectives, and one that we achieved this year. In addition to the map of Italy, SEAT users can also find the maps of other European countries to help them when travelling across the border into Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, Slovenia and Croatia".
"ICAL - commented Roberta Lingiardi - Managing Director of ICAL - has offered the professional skills and expertise which come from over 50 years in the sector of electronic consumer goods, for the distribution in Italy of a unique, inimitable product whose database is the only one of its kind in the market for GPS satellite navigation systems. The product's unrivalled strengths, together with the extensive market distribution offered by our company, will be its keys to success. This agreement between SEAT Pagine Gialle and ICAL lays the foundations for an ongoing partnership that will not only bring advantages for the companies, but also for the end user".
