Eco-Management and Audit Scheme

The eco-management and audit scheme is an instrument created by the European Community that allows voluntary participation by organisations (companies, public entities, etc.) wishing to evaluate and improve their environmental performance and provide information on their environmental management system to the public and other interested parties.
The environmental management system required by EMAS is based on the requirements of ISO 14001:2004. An open dialogue with the public is ensured by requiring that organisations publish (and keep updated) an Environmental Declaration containing key information and data about their environmental aspects and impact.
